How often a commercial fleet should be washed

Monthly for most working fleets, more for construction and coastal exposure, less for low-mileage units. Why the interval is a maintenance decision rather than a cosmetic one.

Monthly is the right default for most working fleets on the Gulf Coast. That is not a sales answer — it is where the cost curve turns, because a fleet washed monthly takes less labour per unit than the same fleet washed quarterly, and the difference is usually larger than the cost of the extra visits.

Adjust up when

  • Units work construction sites — clay sets like a shell and holds moisture against metal
  • Units run coastal or port routes — salt drives corrosion into seams, fasteners and undercarriages
  • Units carry branding into residential driveways — appearance is directly commercial
  • Units run a petrochemical corridor — catalyst dust is mildly abrasive and dulls paint and aluminum
  • Winter road treatment has been applied anywhere on the route

Adjust down when

  • Units are low-mileage and yard-bound
  • Units are stored indoors between uses
  • The fleet is unbranded and appearance carries no commercial weight

The maintenance argument

Road film holds salt and brake dust against paint and aluminum, and the damage is cumulative and not reversible without paint correction or brightening. That makes washing a preservation measure on an asset with a ten-to-fifteen year life.

The second argument is diagnostic. A clean engine bay and undercarriage means any new wetness is new — a developing leak becomes visible while it is still cheap, rather than announcing itself as a roadside failure.

Longer intervals for the deeper services

Engine degreasing and undercarriage work runs on a longer cycle than exterior washing — quarterly to semi-annually for most fleets, more often for equipment working wet or contaminated ground. Aluminum brightening is annual for polished surfaces on Gulf Coast units and considerably less often for mill finish. Regular washing extends both intervals substantially.
